Fixed appliances
This is the successful traditional way of moving teeth and creating your smile
This involves brackets being attached to the teeth connected by an arch wire to provide accurate and precise movements. The brackets can be stainless steel or ceramic. Small elastics are placed around the brackets. The elastics can be a variety of colours to brighten your smile!

Removable Braces
Removable braces are sometimes used as preliminary treatment prior to fixed braces. They can often be used to encourage growth of the jaws in a certain direction or to correct simple anomalies at a young age. “Functional Appliances” are a type of removable appliance. Dr Alcock will advise if this treatment is necessary for you.

Invisible Braces
This involves the use a series of clear aligners that are custom-made to fit you. The virtually invisible aligners which are made from clear, strong medical grade plastic gradually reposition your teeth into a smile you’ll be proud of.
Invisalign uses 3-D computer imaging technology to depict the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position from which a series of custom-made “aligners” are produced. Each aligner moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks, then replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved.
Dr Alcock will advise if you are a candidate for this type of treatment.

Retainers
After your orthodontic treatment has been completed you will be given retainers to wear to maintain good alignment and keep your new smile.
You will need to wear retainers afterwards as all teeth will have a natural tendency to move back towards where they have come from to some extent.
In some cases we may also have to place a fixed retainer to the back of the upper and lower front teeth which cannot be seen.
